ATKINSON - Two residents who claim Police Chief Philip V. Consentino bullied people into removing their names from a warrant article petition are preparing to sue the chief and the board of selectmen. The petition would have changed the chief position from part time to full time and raised the job's minimum qualifications.
MANCHESTER - About 50 Comcast employees in New Hampshire have received layoff notices in the past several days.
CONCORD - Early estimates Gov. John Lynch made were that revenues this year would be off by $200 million. Administrative Services Commissioner Linda Hodgdon said today that figure is now between $250 million and $300 million.

Updated, 6:52 p.m. Republican J. Bonnie Newman, a veteran of state and national politics who has never held elective office, is Gov. John Lynch's choice for U.S. senator. In his announcement speech, the Democratic governor said Newman would not seek election in 2010 nor would she endorse a candidate.
