How to use YouTube to promote your business

Many business owners find the idea of starting a YouTube channel intimidating. But, it doesn’t have to be. Some of the most popular content on YouTube is simple videos where people are explaining how to do something.

Video has become increasingly important for successfully marketing businesses of all sizes. We’re going to break down some steps you should take to promote your business using YouTube.

Set up Your Channel

When you create your YouTube channel, you will want to set it up in a way that looks professional. Create clean and professional looking channel art. You can use a tool like Canva that has preset designs and formats to help you get started. Make sure you have all your contact information on your page, including links to your website and social media.

Pick Your Video Style

The type of content you publish will depend on what type of business you have. If your business is service-related, you can create behind-the-scenes videos. With this type of content, you can highlight your brand culture, or you can simply give people a look into what it’s like to do your job.

You can also make how-to videos. Try making a how-to video that will teach something simple. This is a great way to provide people with content that is not only valuable, but also positions you as an expert in your field.

If you have a product-based business, you can make product launch videos, product demonstration videos, or mini commercials, if you want to get fancy.

Publishing Your Content

When you decide what type of video you want to create, there are some things you want to consider before you begin.

Equipment – You don’t need a fancy camera (though it wouldn’t hurt), most smartphone cameras will do the job. Try to shoot in bright or natural lighting to get the best results.

Sound is extremely important. People will watch content that doesn’t have great quality video, but if the audio is bad and they can’t hear what you’re saying, they’re most likely going to click off your video. You can use your headphones as a mic or get a lav mic. When possible, limit background noise as you film.

Positioning – When you post your video, utilize keywords in the title and description. This will help it to show up in searches. You can use Google’s Keyword Tool to find variations of your keywords to make your content more searchable.

Choose a nice thumbnail image for your video to make it look inviting and professional. Canva has a template for this, too.

Don't forget to include a call-to-action and include your contact information in the description so that people can follow you and contact you easily.

Once you have your first video up, make sure to share it. Share it on your social media accounts, embed it on your website and send it out in your email newsletter.
