DERRY — From the Barrel brewery is celebrating a grand opening for its new tasting room today.
The brewery has moved from its original location in Londonderry to a new facility at 1 Corporate Park Drive, Unit 16, in Derry.
From the Barrel opened in July 2014 at 15 Londonderry Road near Moonlight Meadery. Its new location is in the same plaza as Rockingham Brewing Co., which opened about three years ago.
Andy Day, owner of Cask and Vine and Doire Distilling, both in Derry, praised the move, saying he’s “absolutely thrilled.”
“It’s one more reason why Derry isn’t just becoming a destination, it is a destination,” Day said.
FTB is the third brewery to start in Derry. Kelsen Brewing Co. is on North High Street.
Day, who celebrated a soft opening for the distillery on Aug. 16 to crowdfunders, said he’s become close friends with FTB co-owner Jay Anderson.
Anderson, also a brewmaster, said the new location has the same space (2,500 square feet) as the old one, but the layout is better, with more space for brewing, and it meets its electricity needs for a planned expansion.
“There were some facility issues in the building we were in,” Anderson said.
The new location is less than a mile away, he said, so it won’t be hard for his customers to find him. Plus, he’s made helpful connections with other brewers in the community and didn’t want to leave.
Anderson said it cost him approximately $20,000 to renovate the new space, most of which was out of pocket, though he financed some new equipment.
He said he wants to do more canning and distribute to more restaurants. But he’d like to stay relatively small as long as the market allows it.
The grand opening is scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. FTB will have cans, bottles and growlers, and will add full pint pours and food, marking the upgrade of its state license from a nanobrewery to a “nano plus” brewery, according to Anderson.
“We were the last ones in the community to do that,” Anderson said.
He expects the ability to sell pints will increase tasting room traffic.
Anderson said the brewery will continue to serve its popular brands such as Papa Double IPA and Elle IPA, and will also roll out new varieties every month or so.
