Primary choices: Four picks for ManchesterEDITORIAL

Less than a week remains for Manchester voters to decide who they will support in the Sept. 19 municipal primaries.
In Manchester’s Ward 7, we believe that Alderman Bill Shea has earned another term. While we often disagree with Shea, he has upheld the standards of his office while his fellow Democrats have let the city down.
Shea is not a blank check for city employees. He also tried to hold his aldermanic colleagues accountable, voting to refer a complaint from one of his constituents against Ron Ludwig and Normand Gamache to the city’s conduct board.
In Ward 8, John Cataldo is the only reasonable choice for taxpayers concerned with keeping property taxes in check. He would be a huge improvement over outgoing Alderman Thomas Katsiantonis, who has decided not to seek reelection while facing charges of tax evasion.
In Ward 11, Gamache needs to go. He keeps voting for raises for relatives.
Former alderman Russ Ouellette struggled with alcoholism five years ago, and his life fell apart. He’s worked hard to put his life back together, and to make amends. He’s running for his former seat, and deserves a second chance.
In Ward 12, Alderman Keith Hirschmann remains a steady voice for taxpayers, and deserves reelection. Manchester needs to keep Hirschmann’s independent, conservative leadership.
Shea, Cataldo, Ouellette, and Hirschmann need your support.
