Tax hysteria: Shaheen and Hassan forget history

December 04. 2017 11:45PM

New Hampshire’s senators need to go back to school.

The reaction of Democratic Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan would have them fail both economics and history.

Last week, Republicans passed a tax reform bill that would cut taxes for millions of low and middle-income Americans, cut the nation’s punishing corporate tax rate, and repeal the insidious Obamacare mandate.

Shaheen and Hassan regurgitate the same tired class warfare rhetoric they always use, refusing to acknowledge that American consumers end up paying corporate taxes.

Shaheen also claimed Republicans crafted the bill in a “secretive manner,” though the legislation has been openly debated for months.

Shaheen seems to have forgotten her vote, along party lines, to foist Obamacare on the American people. Hassan doesn’t want you to remember when she inserted the LLC Tax into the New Hampshire budget at the eleventh hour.

Voters will get to see how the tax bill works before heading to the polls in 2018. And they will see that Shaheen and Hassan’s doomsaying simply won’t pan out.

Senate Republicans pushed the bill through using the legislative tools at their disposal. The process was no more or less dysfunctional than we’ve come to expect.
