Winter is here: Slow down in the snowEDITORIAL

Winter does not officially begin until next week, but winter weather is here.
Why is it that as winter arrives each year, some drivers forget that they live in New Hampshire?
Saturday’s snowfall brought with it a flurry of accidents, from a relatively modest storm.
There is more snow and ice in the forecast for Tuesday, the first time this winter that Jack Frost will affect the morning commute across southern New Hampshire.
The rules of winter driving are fairly simple. Give yourself a little more time to get wherever you are going. Leave more space between you and the car in front of you. And most importantly, slow down. Even if you have four-wheel drive. You can’t change the laws of physics, and objects in motion stay in motion longer on snowy and icy roads.
Even if you are an experienced winter driver, remember to watch out for the other guy speeding down the highway as if it’s a warm August afternoon.
Make sure to take a minute to clear snow and ice from the roof of your car. This can be a deadly hazard for other motorists. Also, it’s the law.
The changing of the seasons is one of the best things about living in New Hampshire. Let us act like we have been here before.
