MANCHESTER — Kids, you can thank Mother Nature for the three extra school days added to this year’s calendar.

Manchester school officials announced Wednesday the final day of classes in the Queen City for students through grade 11 will be Friday, June 15, instead of June 12 as originally projected.

According to Andrea Alley, communications coordinator for the Manchester school district, because city schools closed for seven days due to poor weather conditions this school year — in addition to two delayed openings and two early releases — the loss of instructional hours exceeded the five-day allowance built into the district’s academic calendar.

As a result, three more days were added to the school year.

According to Alley,·the last day for preschool students remains Friday, June 8. Scheduled teacher professional learning and organizational activities will be held June 18 and 19.

June 15 will be an early release day for elementary students and teachers as well as preschool teachers, while middle and high school students and teachers will be in school for a full day.

Final exam days for high school students also have been adjusted and are now set for June 12, 13, 14, and 15.

High school graduation ceremonies for 2018 are still set for June 9 at SNHU Arena, according to the following schedule:

MST — 8 a.m.

Memorial — 10 a.m.

West — 2 p.m.

Central — 6 p.m.

As previously reported, school board officials have also approved the 2018/2019 academic calendar.

The first day of school for students will be Wednesday, Sept. 5, while teachers will report for professional learning days on Aug. 31 and Sept. 4.

Other significant dates in next year’s academic calendar include:

No school for students during teacher professional learning days on Sept. 11 and Nov. 6;

No school on Wednesday, Nov. 21 before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend;

And the anticipated last day of school in 2019, barring make-up days for weather, will be June 13, 2019.

High school graduation day at the SNHU Arena is set for Saturday, June 15, 2019. The full calendar is posted at
