H.S. Football: QB leads South past Crusaders

MANCHESTER – A Keith Farkas-inspired second quarter rampage led Nashua South past Manchester Memorial, 38-7, last night in the Division I season finale for both.

Farkas threw second-stanza scoring strikes of 33, 68, and 35 yards to give the Purple Panthers a 31-0 halftime edge. The junior signal caller completed 10-of-16 first half passes for 210 yards.

"He had a good night, definitely," South coach Scott Knight said. "Once he got going, there was some stuff that was there."

Getting going seemed an early problem for Farkas and the Panthers (5-5, 3-5). The Crusaders (3-7, 2-6) gave as good as they got in a scoreless opening frame.

But Memorial's night was soon to sour.

Farkas found Nicholas Frederickson from 33 yards out less than a minute into the second stanza. Memorial fumbled two plays later, and South turned that miscue into three points (Cam DiCecca's 27 yard field goal.).

The rout word was on lips throughout Chabot-McDonough field after South scored three touchdowns in the second quarter's final 3:42.

Armond McCrae scored all three (3-yard run / 68-yard pass from Farkas / 35-yard pass from Farkas with 0:00 remaining).

After enjoying what Memorial coach Peter Colcord labeled his team's "best week of practice" this season, the Crusaders suffered through a depressing halftime get-together.

"I don't know what happened," Colcord said. "The kids were all excited. We had senior night tonight. We had seniors that were pretty emotional.

"And they came out kind of flat," Colcord said. "Sometimes you just can't figure it out. It's high school kids."

Farkas added a fourth touchdown pass (9 yards to Nick Haskell) early in the third quarter. He final line was 11-of-17, 229 yards, and four touchdowns.

McCrae had 112 receiving yards (4 catches).

Memorial's lone score came midway through the fourth quarter when Chris Martin latched onto a 43 yard-pass from quarterback Fred Rogers (8-of-14, 98 yards).
