H.S. Football Roundup: Alvirne whips Owls, makes Div. II playoffs

Alvirne of Hudson secured the final playoff spot in Division II with a 32-7 victory on its home turf, bouncing Timberlane of Plaistow from the postseason last night.

The Broncos took control early. Signal caller Patrick Reidy found Vinny Frasco for a 23-yard touchdown pass that gave the Broncos a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, and Reidy soon made it 14-0 with a quarterback keeper.

Timberlane star running Derek Furey (ankle injury) didn't play, but the Owls got on the board with Luke Ouellette's 53-yard touchdown gallop. Sean Sipsey, on a 3-yard touchdown run, pushed Alvirne's lead to 20-7 by halftime.

Nick Goldsack scored a pair of touchdowns in the second half, and the Broncos finished the regular season at 5-5 overall (4-4 Div. II). Reidy had a big night, completing nine of 10 passes for 109 yards. Running back Jesse Horne churned out 111 yards on 22 attempts for the winners.

Timberlane moved to 4-6 overall (4-4 Div. II). Alvirne earned a semifinal bout against the winner of tonight's much-anticipated Exeter at Bishop Guertin of Nashua contest.

Winnacunnet 53, Spaulding 13: Jesse Gould's 79-yard kickoff return was among the many highlights for playoff-bound Winnacunnet of Hampton, which took care of business at Rochester last night.

Quarterback Steven Cronin fired an 11-yard touchdown pass to Harry Knowles as the Warriors (7-3 overall, 5-3 Div. II) warmed up in the first quarter. It was 40-0 by halftime.

Jason Busfield rushed 15 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns, and Mike Trainor added a pair of short yardage TDs. Winnacunnet's Brett Taylor rushed for 44 yards and added a touchdown.

West 28, Concord 7: Louis Rochette had a 35-yard touchdown run to spark the Blue Knights at Concord last night. Both teams entered the game looking for their first win in Division I.

West's Aaron Martin rushed for two touchdowns, Jeff Wallace also found paydirt for the Blue Knights, 1-7 in the league, 2-8 overall.
