E-mail woes at my.fairpoint are fixed

FairPoint Communications Inc. customers who use “my.fairpoint.net” for their e-mail lost access to it for about four hours last night, a spokeswoman confirmed.

The outage, which affected customers across the country, was linked to a server at a vendor site and lasted from about 5 to 9 p.m., Jill Healey Wurm said.

Wurm declined to identify the vendor but said other e-mail providers who use the same vendor as their server were also affected.

Customers who get their Internet access through FairPoint could access the Internet but couldn’t access their FairPoint e-mail, she said.

A 4-hour email outage from any carrier is NOT newsworthy.

Floyd, how often are PacifiCorp power outages reported in the UL?
- Joe, Milford

Well Floyd from Manchester...it may happen regularly, but if Fairpoint had been providing reliable service from the get go and hadn't filed chapter 11 yesterday then this might have gone unnoticed. So I don't understand the point you are trying to make???

Though not a big fan of the takeover of my Verizon phone and internet/e-mail by Fairpoint, I must say that it is true, internet was not affected, only my e-mail. I was able to go to a "Live Chat" with a Fairpoint Tech to ask about my e-mail and was told what this article says today. It was the first time I have tried this feature and I must say I was pleased. Later on that night, the e-mail was restored with no major problems.

This happens industry-wide on a regular basis and you'll never read about it here - unless it happens to involve FairPoint. I guess then it's newsworthy. We get it UL. We get it.
