PELHAM — A dog that jumped from a car’s back seat to the front seat is being blamed for an accident on Leonard Drive Thursday morning.

According to police, Ellen Cooper, 62, was driving west about 8:42 a.m. with two children and two dogs in her vehicle when one of the animals jumped into the front seat.

“This then caused Cooper to swerve off the roadway and into a tree before coming to rest by a utility pole,” police said.

Cooper's vehicle was heavily damaged, but neither the people nor the dogs in the vehicle were injured. Unlike the dogs, police pointed out, the children in the vehicle were in proper restraints.
