ATV drivers seriously hurt in separate crashes

August 13. 2017 10:54AM

Two people were seriously injured in separate off-road vehicle crashes Saturday.

Jason May, 28, of Gorham was riding an ATV in the area of Stearns Brook in Success when he crashed several miles into the woods.  Emergency crews got an ambulance to May, who was taken to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin and then airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon for further evaluation.

Authorities allege speed and intoxication were contributing factors in May's crash and criminal charges are pending. May was wearing a helmet and eye protection.

In Swanzey, Kyle P. Martin, 22, of Rhode Island, was seriously injured when he crashed his ATV near Rabbit Hollow Road on Saturday night. Martin was attempting to pass his riding companion on a trail when he lost control, left the trail and struck a tree, according to Fish and Game.

Martin was taken to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene and later to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass.

Conservation officers said it appeared speed and alcohol were contributing factors to the crash.
