HAMPTON — Heavy snow created headaches for firefighters battling a house fire Thursday morning.

Firefighters from several communities responded to 23 Driftwood Road, a two-story residence, after a neighbor reported the fire about 6 a.m., Fire Chief Jameson Ayotte said.

Crews already were dealing with downed power line when the fire was reported.

Ayotte said the fire was under control by about 7 a.m.

No one was home at the time of the fire, which caused extensive damage.

No firefighters were injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

“Trying to slog through the deep snow in the front yard made it difficult,” Ayotee said, adding firefighters’ primary radio frequency went down, possibly due to a tree on lines.

Firefighters were assisted by crews from Exeter, Hampton Falls, North Hampton, Portsmouth, Rye, and Seabrook.
