ANTRIM — Route 202 closed for nearly four hours Wednesday after a two-car collision killed one driver and sent another to the hospital.

Police have identified Joseph Alibrandi, 55, of Hillsborough, as the man killed in the crash.  The identity of the drivers had initially been withheld pending notification of family, Antrim police Cpl. Ethan Vaillancourt said.

The head-on collision occurred on Route 202 near Old Turnpike Road.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

So far, police have determined that a 2003 PT Cruiser driven south on Route 202 by a 55-year-old Hillsborough man crossed over the center line and collided head-on with a Chevrolet dump truck, driven by a 64-year-old Antrim man.

Vaillancourt described the Chevrolet as a “farm truck” from Fox Run Farm of Antrim.

The farm truck driver told police he was traveling northbound on Route 202 when he noticed the PT Cruiser in the southbound lane begin to cross the center line.

The driver of the farm truck steered his vehicle as far off the road as possible and into the breakdown lane, police said, but a collision still occurred.

The Antrim man driving the farm truck was taken to Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough with only minor injuries.

The Hillsborough man driving the PT Cruiser was killed on impact, Vaillancourt said.

Police, fire and medical workers responded to the scene of the crash at 9:43 a.m. and closed the state road. The road reopened around 1:30 p.m., according to Vaillancourt.

Antrim police are investigating to determine the cause of the fatal crash.

A medical examiner responded to the scene and crash investigators are awaiting toxicology results before they determine a cause of the accident.
