LACONIA — A motorcyclist died in a crash Tuesday night on Watson Road, where the 95th Annual Laconia Motorcycle Week is underway.

The male driver was found dead at the scene of the crash, after neighbors heard the impact and went to investigate, according to police. The identity of the victim is being withheld until authorities can notify his family.

The motorcyclist was heading northeast on the winding road, just east of Route 3, when he left the paved portion and was thrown from the motorcycle, police said. The accident was reported about 11:44 p.m. and the cause remains under investigation.

Watson Road leads from Weirs Beach to Route 3, and connects with Roller Coaster Road. The area has been the site of a number of fatal motorcycle crashes over the years during bike week. The crash is the first fatality reported in Laconia during this year’s rally.

On June 8 in neighboring Meredith, James Carroll, 61, of Nashua died when his motorcycle struck the back of a vehicle turning into a driveway on Parade Road near the intersection of Livingston Road.
