MANCHESTER — Southside Middle School will be open Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, after school officials ordered the school closed on Thursday, Oct. 11, because of sewer line problems both inside and outside the building, the city’s public works director said.
Kevin Sheppard said workers had to clear a blocked sewer line within the building. While doing so, they discovered damage to the service line that carries the building’s wastewater into the city’s sewer system.
City workers dug down to the service line on Thursday, and will return on Saturday, Oct. 13, to address the damage to the clay line.
“It’s open and clear but it showed some aging,” Sheppard said. “It’s not leaching into the ground. It’s not a problem, but there’s a potential problem in the future.”
