CONCORD — People needing to visit a state Department of Motor Vehicles office soon will be able to see how long the wait will be before they leave home, the DMV announced Tuesday.
The new online system, available at www.nh.gov/dmv, will become effective Thursday, the DMV said in a news release.
People who need to visit the DMV in Concord, Manchester, Nashua, Salem or Dover — the DMV’s busiest offices — will be able to visit the website and see how many people are already in line and the longest wait time being experienced at the office, the DMV said.
“We are continually looking for ways to improve a customer’s experience at our offices,” DMV Director Elizabeth Bielecki said. “By providing wait time information online, our customers will be able to plan their DMV visit to fit within their daily schedule.”
The wait times will be constantly updated by a recently installed queueing system at the DMV that tracks the time between when a customer arrives and receives a ticket to when they are called to the counter, the release said.
According to the DMV, peak times at DMV offices are the first and last weeks of the month, especially Mondays and Fridays. Mid-morning and mid-afternoon usually have reduced wait times, the release said.
