GILMANTON — A section of Route 106 was closed for nearly three hours on Wednesday after a fatal motor vehicle accident.

Police Chief Matt Currier said one person died at the scene of a three-vehicle crash that happened about 4 p.m. in the area of 235 Route 106. The accident was on a stretch of highway that has a posted speed limited of 55 mph.

At least three other people suffered injuries and were taken to Concord Hospital for treatment, police said.

Police were still working to identify the victim and the injured to notify their families.

The accident occurred in the area of A.E. Mitchell Construction and a Ryder truck rental business.

The Belknap County Regional Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene along with New Hampshire State Police.

Southbound traffic heading toward Loudon was rerouted onto Waring Road, then onto South Road, which reconnects with Route 106. Northbound traffic was detoured onto Allens Mills Road.
