SPRINGFIELD — A fire at a wood products manufacturing mill in Springfield spread quickly to four alarms Wednesday night.

The first report of the blaze at the Durgin and Crowell Lumber Co. mill came in at 7:30 p.m.

The company located at 231 Fisher Corner Road supplies planed wood to many local and regional customers.

There were no early reports of any injuries, but fire fully engulfed at least one of the buildings on the site, according to witnesses.

First responders confirmed there had been a smaller fire at the compound Tuesday night but it was quickly contained.

Wednesday's fire caused much more extensive damage to a 700-by-200-foot building.

Fire departments from more than a dozen communities were battling the fire.
