LACONIA — A city man who was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Meredith Center Road over the weekend has died, according to police.

Wayne Goddard, 70, of 60 School St., was ejected when he lost control of his pickup truck on Meredith Center Road while heading toward Laconia on Saturday at about 6:40 p.m.

The truck crossed the roadway and struck an embankment before rolling at least four times before landing on its roof in the opposite lane. Goddard was the lone occupant of the vehicle, according to police.

Police said alcohol and excessive speed appear to be factors in the accident, which occurred in the area of the Robbie Mills Sports Complex on the hill below the intersection of Lane Road. Goddard was rushed by Laconia Fire Department Ambulance to Lakes Region General Hospital to meet a waiting helicopter.

He was flown to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon but succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
