The drama surrounding State House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt came to a head Sunday as the embattled politician resigned from his position for the second time in three days, but this time apologizing for misrepresenting his work.

House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt agreed to resign after he admitted fabricating reports for a law school internship, according to the House Republican who was mentoring him. "When I saw the reports, I was blown away," said state Rep. J. Brandon Giuda. "It's a novel of fiction and it just blew me away." On Friday, Bettencourt, R-Salem, announced he would step down on June 6 and would not run again because he is getting married and starting a new job.
