70th anniversary: Mr. and Mrs. Eshelman

Walter and Ella Eshelman

Mr. and Mrs. Walter I. Eshelman of Concord, who had previously lived in Laconia for 58 years, recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Eshelman and the former Ella A. Sandquist were united in marriage on March 24, 1946, at First Baptist Church in Concord.

The couple have six children, Kathleen of Sommerville, Mass., Wayne of Laconia, Ruth of Eastford, Conn., Kristine of San Diego, Calif., Rebecca of Leicester, Vt., and Erik of West Medford, Mass.; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Eshelman were honored by their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on March 26 in Laconia, where they celebrated their 70 years of marriage surrounded by their extended Evangelical Baptist Church family. Walt and Ella have worshipped and volunteered at the Laconia church for 58 years.

Walter retired in 1991 after 33 years as operations manager, general manager, and eventually, president of Beau Products/Vernitron.

Ella enjoyed raising their large family in their home of 56 years on Webster Street, which hosted numerous youth group functions, and more recently, was a favorite family gathering place for annual "Eshelmania" holiday reunions.

Over the years, the couple have enjoyed camping with their kids, sailing on Lake Winnipesaukee, and walking the beaches around their beloved Kennebunk, Maine.

They also enjoyed traveling with their grandchildren in their RV nicknamed "Mor Mor's Sunshine Shop on Wheels." In later years, they made wonderful memories at their camp in Kennebunk, where they regularly saw family and friends.
