WEARE — A dog was rescued after falling through rotten wood covering a well.
Police and firefighters responded to a call Saturday night on South Sugar Hill Road regarding a dog that had fallen into a well, police said in a release.
The responders learned at the scene that two dogs had fallen through the wood, and that one of the dogs was already dead, police said.
After a recovery mission that lasted more than 2 hours, a Weare fire captain rappelled down into the well and was able to rescue “Smoke,” who appeared to be OK after the ordeal, according to the release.
Police said the incident was a reminder for residents to make sure wells or other hazards on their property are properly covered.
