CONCORD – The New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts (NHBCA), a statewide organization that promotes the intersection of art and commerce, and New Hampshire Humanities are partnering to promote Humanities @ Work, an initiative to offer NHBCA member businesses the opportunity to bring humanities-based programming into the workplace.

Business members will be able to bring cultural programming into the workplace over lunch, or whenever is best for employers and employees. The programs range from music and poetry appreciation to the history of animation; from quilt-making traditions to New Hampshire’s architectural legacy; and even a program on the quest for happiness. NHBCA members can pick from the many Humanities to Go offerings or request tailored programs to fit their needs. While a modest fee is required, a discount will now be offered to NHBCA members, the groups said in a release.

“As businesses look to attract and retain a talented and robust workforce, it is important to provide engaging experiences for employees to build connections with one another and consider new and interesting ideas,” NHBCA Executive Director Tricia Soule said. “Making Humanities @ Work available to our members is one way we hope to help businesses highlight the important role cultural offerings play in making New Hampshire an attractive place to live and work.”

Technical training is not the only strategy for attracting and retaining top quality workers, said Ellen Scarponi of Consolidated Communications, who chairs the New Hampshire Humanities board.

“By making it easy and affordable for employers to offer humanities-based programs in the workplace, New Hampshire Humanities gives employers the ability to provide something that unites, inspires and enlightens their employees, contributing to overall job satisfaction, creating a responsive, respectful workplace and retaining the best workforce possible,” Scarponi said.
