BEDFORD — A local business is planning to double the size of its facility along South River Road.
TRM Microwave has submitted a site plan for a proposed 13,376-square-foot, two-story addition to its existing research and development building of about 11,369 square feet at 280 South River Road.
“TRM Microwave proposes to construct a two-story addition to their existing, single-story facility,” David Udelsman of Udelsman Associates wrote in a memo to the town’s planning department. “The addition is designed to complement and enhance the existing architecture.”
To make space for the new addition, the company is recommending the removal of a small one-story building at 7 Sunset Lane, according to the plans on file at town hall. Two lots would be merged in order to create a 2.34-acre lot for the proposed complex at the intersection of South River Road and Sunset Lane, the plans state.
“The expanded facility will continue to serve as the corporate headquarters of TRM Microwave,” the plans state. “Given the planned increase in net floor area, on-site parking accommodations will increase from 46 to 79 spaces.”
TRM Microwave leases space at 4 Sunset Lane — the former NAPA Auto Parts store that the town purchased in 2014 with plans for it to potentially house a future fire station for the business district.
TRM Microwave occupies that 7,500-square-foot building for its customer relationship group, capabilities team and environmental lab. Since its acquisition, the town has not yet brought forward plans to convert the building at 4 Sunset Lane into a fire substation.
Some of TRM Microwave’s customers include BAE Systems, Raytheon, Boeing and Lockheed Martin.
According to its website, TRM Microwave is a small business that specializes in the custom design and manufacturing of RF/Microwave components.
