MANCHESTER — The Duprey Companies, The Keene Sentinel, Fiduciary Trust of New England and The Art Center were named the winners of the Business in the Arts Awards, and Elizabeth Hitchcock was named as the Leadership Award recipient, by the New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts on Monday.
The winners were honored during a gala event at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Manchester for their support of the arts and culture through donations of time, money and other resources to benefit their communities in and around New Hampshire.
The Duprey Companies was lauded for donating corporate space for alternative galleries that showcase artists and arts organizations and for its role in promoting public art at its commercial properties in and around Concord.
The Keene Sentinel was cited for its more than $75,000 of in-kind support to arts organizations and for its cooperation with the local arts advocacy group Arts Alive! to produce an arts awards program for Monadnock Region artists.
Fiduciary Trust of New England received accolades for providing corporate sponsorship and for matching employee gifts to support the Currier Museum of Art’s largest fundraising initiative.
The Art Center was recognized for being a champion for working artists with its more than 3,000 square feet of studio, gallery and performing arts space.
Elizabeth Hitchcock was honored for her longtime commitment to advancing Manchester’s artistic and cultural scene by supporting organizations such as Manchester Arts Commission, the Currier Museum of Art, Manchester Connects and the Rex Theatre through her board memberships and personal donations.
Keynote speaker Sarah Stewart, commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, spoke about the role of the arts in the state’s creative economy. Congressman Chris Pappas congratulated the award recipients for their commitment to the arts. Former New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts executive director Joan Goshgarian, who retired in 2018, was recognized for her 34 years of connecting the art and business communities.
The evening’s performance was an immersive art experience featuring elements including live music, hip hop and modern dance, dramatic readings, and visual art. Joan Brodsky of New Hampshire Dance Collaborative produced an event featuring Groove: Lounge; Movement from Above; LCTC; NSquared; Theatre KAPOW; and Marcia Santore Art.
A pop-up art gallery featured the abstract monotype prints of artist Christine Destrempes.
A museum-quality reproduction print by the artist was raffled to support the Business Committee for the Arts.
