NASHUA — Floor & Decor will make its New Hampshire debut in the former Bob’s and Staples stores on Amherst Street.
The vacant Bob’s and Staples stores will be converted into a new Floor & Decor retail center.
The Georgia-based retailer’s closest current locations are in Saugus and Avon, Mass.
This week, the Nashua City Planning Board approved the conversion at 255-269 Amherst St. — the same plaza as A.C. Moore and Whole Foods Market.
The new store will combine the Bob’s and Staples spaces “and then add some additional square footage,” said Parker Lange of CenterPoint Integrated Solutions, a real estate development and civil engineering firm.
The plan includes 7,507 square feet of new space at the northeast corner of the plaza that will be used as a customer pickup area, according to Lange.
Scott Leclair, chairman of the Nashua Planning Board, said he is pleased that the vacated stores will once again be utilized, especially since the plaza has such easy access to the highway.
“That is a pretty successful area, particularly with the new traffic area,” Leclair said of the recent improvements made to the major intersection near Whole Foods Market.
Once complete, Floor & Decor will occupy more than 79,000 square feet of space within the plaza.
The facade of the building will be updated, Lange told city planners. The two existing facades will be consolidated into one storefront. A new, concrete walkway will be added at the front of the store as well.
City Planner Scott McPhie told the planning board that a traffic-control plan will be needed during construction “due to heavy traffic flows around the Whole Foods store, and the single entrance and exit located off of Amherst Street.”
Floor & Decor was founded in 2000 and offers a variety of flooring, installation materials and accessories, according to its website.
