John Harris

John Harris is resigning from his post as president and CEO of the Granite YMCA.

MANCHESTER — Granite YMCA officials announced they would undertake a national search to replace CEO John Harris, who said after nearly two years at the helm he is resigning for personal reasons.

“I have witnessed our association impact our communities in so many meaningful and substantial ways. With your support and dedication, we continue to expand our reach and to enrich the lives of those we serve,” Harris said in a statement released late Friday afternoon.

“I will cherish the time we shared and know that The Granite YMCA will continue to serve southern New Hampshire with purpose and distinction.”

Current Chief Operating Officer Michele Sheppard and Vice President of Finance Janis Clark will share interim duties of the CEO while a search is conducted, officials said.

“John is leaving for personal reasons, and everyone appreciates his service to the Y. We wish John well in his future endeavors,” said board Chairman Denise Langley said.

“He has many skills to bring to another association.”

The Granite YMCA operates five branches located in Manchester, Goffstown, Londonderry, Rochester, and Portsmouth and two overnight camps in Alton and Strafford.
