BEDFORD — The doors to the new HomeSense and Sierra stores at the Bedford Mall plaza officially open on Thursday morning.
“We are really excited to be in Bedford,” said Rob Pien, district manager with Sierra, formerly known as Sierra Trading Post.
The two businesses, both operated by TJX Companies, are opening inside of the old Bob’s Store location at 73 S. River Road. Months of renovations have been completed to transform the retail site.
Sierra is an off-price retailer specializing in outdoor clothing and gear. “We are a little bit of everything,” said Pien, including ski season essentials, hiking must-haves and camping necessities, pet gear, food and more.
“I think the New Hampshire market is an opportune market for us,” said Pien.
The store also carries a new line of wellness categories that incorporate organic, all-natural and preservative and chemical free items.
“Yoga is also a big one for us,” he said. “We have a really nice mix of products.”
Sierra is employing about 45 workers in Bedford, its second New Hampshire location. The first is in Nashua.
HomeSense is part of the HomeGoods family, and focuses on furniture, lighting, decor, art and rugs; this is the third HomeSense in New Hampshire after Portsmouth and Salem.
The former Bob’s Store was a 45,000-square-foot space. Homesense will occupy about 27,000 square feet and Sierra about 18,000.
Both stores will officially open at 8 a.m. on Thursday. A soft opening took place Tuesday.
Sierra and HomeSense are located on the southern end of the mall plaza. The former Bob’s Store closed about two years ago. Other anchor tenants remain at the 18-acre mall, including Kohl’s, Staples and Marshalls.
