Michael Labrie

Michael Labrie and his brother, Peter, are working on a project in downtown Portsmouth they say will revolutionize the arts scene on the Seacoast if all goes to plan.

The historic YMCA building in Portsmouth is being transformed into a jazz and blues club with a contemporary art museum that business leaders say will draw artists to the city.

Michael Labrie and his brother, Peter, purchased 135 Congress St. in 2017. They are self-financing a massive restoration of the building, which will have the capacity for 600 people when it is finished.

YMCA building

The YMCA building on Congress Street in Portsmouth, which was built in 1905, has been underutilized for years. It will be a jazz and blues club with a contemporary art museum that Michael and Peter Labrie hope to have open by spring 2021.
