CONCORD — John Ziemba, senior vice president of Triangle Credit Union in Nashua, was named the New Hampshire Small Business Administration’s 2019 Financial Services Champion of the Year.
Ziemba, who has been working for Triangle since 1991, was instrumental in the creation of the credit union’s Commercial Lending and Business Services Department, according to a news release.
“John is a tremendous resource to us at the credit union as well as to our borrowers,” said Christine Malloy, commercial loan officer, who nominated Ziemba for the award. “He helps find solid financing solutions for our business members and does a wonderful job explaining the process that at first seems complicated and unfamiliar.”
In September 1939, Triangle opened its doors with assets of $2,000 serving 180 members. Today, Triangle Credit Union has surpassed $700 million in assets and supports more than 55,000 members. The Commercial Lending Department started in 2000 with one employee. Today, it has seven employees with a loan portfolio exceeding $80 million.
Over the past 10 years, Triangle has used the SBA program to help its business members grow and prosper. Triangle closed its first SBA loan in 2009 for $500,000, followed by nine 7(a) loans and two SBA 504 loans in 2010. Since 2009, Triangle has averaged nine SBA loans per year with an average balance of $844,000. In 2016, Triangle financed its highest number of SBA loans at 17; just a year later in 2017, Triangle’s SBA loan volume topped $3 million.
“Triangle has been one of the top credit unions for SBA lending year after year in New Hampshire and was selected as our leading credit union in 2018,” said Greta Johansson, district director, in a statement. “Congratulations to John Ziemba and his team for this well-deserved recognition.”
Award winners will be honored at an annual small business week celebration sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration – New Hampshire District Office and the New Hampshire Bankers Association that will be held on May 21 at Derryfield Country Club in Manchester.
