BOSTON -- Federal immigration officials arrested 58 people for immigration-related violations during a New England-wide, five-day effort that ended Tuesday, ICE announced.
Thirty-three have criminal charges pending and 15 had been released from local custody with an active detainer, according to a statement issued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
In New Hampshire, ICE picked up a 44-year-old Brazilian living in Windham. Brazil wants him on a charge of smuggling weapons. As is standard practice, ICE did not disclose any names of those arrested.
Todd M. Lyons, acting field office director in Boston, said ICE New England officers target criminal aliens.
"Despite unjustified criticism, our officers continue to work daily with professionalism and integrity to enforce immigration law and protect our communities from criminal aliens,” Lyons said.
