If you get a friend request or message from Market Basket on Facebook, you better think twice about accepting it.
That’s what the company is telling its customers after learning that a “newly created and unauthorized Facebook profile” is using Market Basket’s name and logo to contact customers.
“This page has been sending friend requests to our customers and has been asking for sensitive information as a requirement to enter our Drink Up, Work Out giveaway,” Market Basket wrote in a Monday Facebook post, which had over 800 shares and 500 reactions as of Tuesday morning.
The supermarket said it only has one official Facebook page, which is facebook.com/marketbasket.
“We do not send friend requests to our customers, and if you receive a friend request from a profile that appears to be Market Basket, please know that it is not from us,” the post states.
The company said it will never request payment information online.
“We ask our community to be vigilant and to not provide this information to other Facebook pages,” the post states. “The safety and privacy of our customers is very important to us and we are working diligently to address this concern.”
Market Basket has locations in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
