NEW LONDON — A local man was arrested Thursday, accused of posting a threat to Snapchat.
The item posted Aug. 9 by Benjamin Schultz, 20, shows him holding a firearm with a caption saying “You better not go to school tomorrow.”
Additional information on context relating to the post was not immediately available, with the New London Police Department receiving assistance from the Merrimack County Attorney’s office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Kearsarge Regional School District Superintendent Winfried Feneberg released a statement Friday following the incident.
“The safety and security of our students and employees is paramount, and we take all threats seriously,” Feneberg said. “While we do not believe there is an active danger, we will take all precautions to ensure safety during the start of the school year.”
Schultz was charged with one count of criminal threatening, a Class A misdemeanor. If found guilty, Schultz could be fined $2,000 and sentenced to up to a year in jail.
Schultz was arraigned on Friday in Newport District Court and will be held at Merrimack County Department of Corrections pending a further hearing set for Monday.
