DOVER - A Tilton man accused of setting a car on fire and abandoning it on the Spaulding Turnpike has been charged with arson, police said Sunday.

David Virgue, 30, was arrested Saturday afternoon by police who located him in Hilton Park, on the north side of the turnpike, New Hampshire State Police said in a release Sunday.

Trooper responded to a call for a 2017 Subaru WRX fully engulfed in flames around 11:50 a.m. Saturday on the southbound side of the road, according to the release. After igniting the car, Virgue fled the scene and was located a short time later in the park, state police said. He was charged with felony arson and reckless conduct, the release said.

Virgue was being held at the Strafford County Jail and scheduled for arraignment in Strafford County Superior

Court on Monday.
