Michelle Jimeno, Mason Elementary School, Mason: The New Hampshire Art Educators Association is proud to announce that the 2018-19 Art Educator of the Year is Michelle Jimeno of Mason Elementary School. Jimeno’s deep commitment to her students is evident; she has the power to find the artist in every student. Jimeno has reached out in many ways by sharing and volunteering her time and expertise in the arts. For many years she has been a NHAEA Conference Presenter, coordinated the Hollis Brookline High School and Hollis Brookline Middle School Reflections Art Competition Programs, and offered an extremely popular afterschool student art program called “Brainiarts” as well as a community senior painting class. She was recognized in 2015 as the New Hampshire Teacher Recycler of the Year for her progressive program using recyclables, and recently completed a yearlong artist-in-residence program celebrating the 250th anniversary of Mason. When it comes to her personal philosophy of teaching, Jimeno sums it up this way: “I am an Art Scientist: I research and study art. I am an Art Engineer: I create and build art. I am an Art Teacher: I educate students about art, and, most importantly, fan the ember of creativity that spreads into all areas of their lives.”
