CONTOOCOOK — Seismology experts confirmed an earthquake hit the Greater Concord area Friday night.

A quake with a magnitude of 2.4 was reported at 9:23 p.m. by the Weston (Mass) Observatory in the Contoocook village, which is part of Hopkinton in Merrimack County.

On social media, dozens of residents reported hearing and feeling the event miles apart from Concord north to Webster and east to Canterbury, Boscawen and Loudon.

The area has seen a spate of small quakes in recent years with the U.S. Geological Survey confirming them in the Contoocook area on March 21, 2016, April 30, 2015 and Oct. 10, 2013.

There were no reports of damage or injury from this latest incident.
