PORTSMOUTH — Portsmouth Regional Hospital has achieved accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery.
“Health care organizations and surgeons seeking accreditation by Surgical Review Corporation undergo an extensive self-assessment and on-site inspection,” the hospital said in a news release.
Master Robotic Surgeons Akhil Sastry, M.D., and Bernard Benedetto, M.D., were also recognized for meeting nationally recognized standards.
“Not all hospitals and surgeons seek accreditation, and not all that undergo the rigorous on-site inspection process are granted accreditation,” Sastry said in the news release. “This accreditation recognizes the surgeons and clinical team at Portsmouth Regional Hospital as the region’s leader in minimally invasive robotic surgery and confirms its achievement of the highest standards for patient safety and care quality.”
The inspection is educational, presenting best practices to help an organization and/or surgeon improve care and services. It includes physicians, nurses and administrators who are actively involved in the accredited program.
“We are extremely proud of our hospital’s robotic team and medical staff members who perform these surgeries,” Benedetto said in a statement. “Together we accomplished this world-class designation for our hospital — another example of Portsmouth Regional Hospital’s commitment to delivering the highest level of innovative care to patients here on the Seacoast and close to home.”
