Zoe Desmarais

Following the tragic death of 21-year-old Zoe Desmarais last month, a family friend is trying to help the Desmarais family.

A GoFundMe effort by Sarah Blumenstock has raised just over $18,000 in 10 days.

The initiative aims to collect $20,000 to help the Desmarais family pay for Zoe’s student loans and other bills that have added more strain to their emotional devastation.

Zoe Desmarais was shot and killed by her boyfriend outside the Steeplegate Mall in Concord on Sept. 25. He then fatally shot himself at the scene.

Blumenstock has been a friend of Zoe’s mother Lori for more than 20 years, as well as a colleague working in nonprofits.

“I had really no expectations,” said Blumenstock on the fundraiser. “(I) just hope Lori and her family would not have to endure the financial burden in addition to the devastation they already feel.”

In addition to the GoFundMe site, Blumenstock says that checks can be made out in any amount to “Lori Desmarais” and mailed to Lori Desmarais c/o Operation Elf 1 Meadowbrook Drive, Andover, MA 01810.
