Scene Setter -- Toys for Tots

The Mall of New Hampshire kicked off the 2018 Toys for Tots campaign with the U.S. Marine Corps and special guests on Nov. 20 that year. It was the 33rd year the mall has partnered with the Marines to provide thousands of New Hampshire children with gifts for the holiday season. From left are: U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Oct. 1 marked the official kick-off for the 2019 Toys for Tots holiday campaign that runs through Christmas.

U.S. Marines and more than 35,000 other volunteers are expected to conduct 812 toy collection and distribution campaigns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

These individuals will engage with local businesses, media and others within their communities to collect new, unwrapped toys and to distribute those gifts.

There are an estimated 15 million children living in poverty in the United States. The mission of Marine Toys for Tots is to bring the joy of Christmas to less fortunate children, to create or restore self-esteem, and to deliver a message of hope that will inspire the youngsters to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

The employees at Franklin Savings Bank sponsored 52 children through Toys for Tots during the 2018 holiday season.
