MEREDITH — Perhaps best known for organizing the Great Rotary Ice Fishing Derby, a local civic group will trade in its cold weather gear for formal attire next month, but the mission will remain the same: Raise money to support local charities and scholarship programs.
Since 1982, the Meredith Rotary Club has donated more than $2 million to area nonprofit groups.
To continue its charitable mission, the club will host a Casino Night fundraiser in the Winnipesaukee Ballroom at Church Landing on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 6 to 10 p.m. Rotary club members will staff the gaming tables.
“We want people to come spend a fun evening with us and help raise money for local charities,” said event coordinator Rob Wichland.
The $50 entry fee will include casino chips, hot and cold appetizers, a raffle ticket and entertainment. Participants can purchase additional chips throughout the event and raffle prizes will be awarded throughout the night.
Both live and silent auctions will be held. Among the live auction items are an inflatable kayak valued at $550 from Watermark Marine Systems; 18 holes of golf for four with a cart at Laconia Country Club; a cord of firewood from Chippers; a Squam Lake dinner cruise; a dinner and beer tasting at Twin Barns Brewing for eight; dinner for eight at Giuseppe’s Ristorante; and dinner for six at Canoe Restaurant in neighboring Center Harbor.
Wichland said ticket sales will be limited to 250. Tickets can be purchased online at www.meredithrotary.org. Check-in begins at 6 p.m., with gaming kicking off promptly at 7 p.m.
