Mom remembers son's excitement

MANCHESTER — Buying Christmas presents for Jake, 12, and Debbie, 5, hasn’t been an option without the help of the Union Leader Santa Fund for the Salvation Army, Judy says.

The single mom, whose chronic health problems have left her disabled, said the program has come through since Jake was little and so thrilled to unwrap the remote-controlled car he had asked for that year.

“He was so excited. He jumped up and down,” she recalled.

Several years later, Judy said Jake is an avid reader with an interest in robotics, among many other things.

“He loves brain games and trying to solve stuff,” she said.

Debbie, she said, loves dolls.

Judy said the Santa Fund is a Christmas blessing and wants donors to know how much she appreciates the annual display of generosity. “I love it,” she said.

Santa Fund donations may be made by sending a check to the Union Leader Santa Fund, in care of the New Hampshire Union Leader, 100 William Loeb Drive, Manchester 03109; or by placing a donation in the Santa Fund box in the lobby of the newspaper, at 100 William Loeb Drive, Manchester, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Donations can also be made online at www.unionleader.com/santafund.

Every effort is made to promptly publish Santa Fund contributions. Donors who wish to see their contributions listed before Christmas are encouraged to submit them as soon as possible. If a donor wishes, we will publish photos of gifts of $1000 or more.
