ALSTEAD — Police are identifying the body found in Lake Warren as that of Marshall J. Bonney Jr., a resident who had gone missing several days earlier, according to reports.

Alstead Police Chief Stephen Murrell said in an email that Bonney drowned while out kayaking.

The identification came after the New Hampshire State Medical Examiner’s office performed an autopsy. The death is not considered suspicious.

“The investigation is still ongoing, but at this time it appears that Mr. Bonney was out on Lake Warren, possibly in his kayak, when for an unknown reason he went into the water,” Murrell wrote. “Unfortunately, he was unable to get back in his kayak or swim to shore and drowned.”

Newspaper reports said that Bonney’s body was found in the lake on Thursday. Bonney, 63, a Pumphouse Road resident, had been missing for about a week before his body was discovered.

Murrell is asking for anyone who may have seen Bonney out in his kayak to contact police. Bonney’s kayak is described as a teal colored, single-person kayak with a trolling motor. Alstead police can be contacted at 835-6277.
