Surveillance footage shows a man attempting to rob Z&J Market on Bridge Street in Manchester on Saturday night.

MANCHESTER — Police were searching for a man who attempted to rob a convenience store before fleeing when the clerk picked up a stool, police said Sunday.

The man, described as white and about 5-foot-5 with a thin build, showed a knife when he entered Z&J Market at 266 Bridge St. Saturday around 6:30 p.m., police said in a news release.

The man told the clerk to open the register, then attempted to open it himself when the clerk refused, police said. The man ran off when the clerk picked up a stool, according to the news release.

The man was wearing a black hoodie with red lettering, black pants, a black and white hat, red gloves and a black bandana covering his face, police said.
