COLEBROOK -- A 9-year-old Connecticut boy was injured when he crashed his ATV Tuesday afternoon along the Upper Coos Recreational Trail, Fish and Game officials said.

At the time, he was riding with a small group of family and friends, headed south along the trail and approximately one mile north of downtown Colebrook. At Route 3 and Ramsey Road, he lost control of his youth-model ATV, went off the trail and down a small embankment about 3:30 p.m., Fish and Game said in a news release.

The ATV rolled and the boy was thrown off, suffering "a significant but non-life-threatening injury."

"Immediately following the crash, a 911 call for help was made by a member of the young man’s riding party," the news release states. "Due to the crash scene being in very close proximity to the 45th Parallel EMS building, rescuers and an ambulance were very quickly on scene."

The boy was taken to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook.

Fish and Game Conservation Officers said the crash was caused by speed and driver inexperience. The boy was wearing proper safety equipment and was accompanied at the time of the crash, Fish and Game said.
