BELMONT – The circumstances surrounding the death of a baby is under investigation, according to police.

The Belmont Fire Department and local police were dispatched to a Main Street address about 12:36 p.m. Tuesday to a report of an unresponsive infant with cardio pulmonary resuscitation in progress.

Belmont Police Captain Richard Mann said the infant was rushed by ambulance to Lakes Region General Hospital, where a doctor later pronounced the four-month-old dead.

“This very unfortunate incident is currently under investigation by the Belmont Police Department in cooperation with the state Medical Examiner’s Officer and in consultation with the State Police Major Crime Division,” Mann said. “Our hearts go out to the grieving family who are in inconsolable grief today.”
