Derry suspicious package

A member of the New Hampshire State Police bomb unit investigates a suspicious package at the Derry Post Office on Thursday. The post office was closed for an hour. The package was determined not to be a hazard.

DERRY — Police responded to a call about a suspicious package at the Derry Post Office on Tsienneto Road at 1:10 p.m. Thursday.

The post office was closed for a little over an hour while emergency personnel investigated, according to police Capt. Vern Thomas.

The package was deemed suspicious because of where it was located. It was discovered on the ground near the outdoor mail receptacles at the edge of the property. Besides being out of place, the package had no delivery information.

As a precaution the post office driveway was closed off while the New Hampshire State Police bomb unit assisted U.S. Postal Inspectors in examining the suspicious package.

The Derry Fire Department stood by.

Police removed the package after it was determined not to be a hazard. They are still investigating to determine the owner of the package.
