SWANZEY — Two hikers who became lost after getting stranded in the dark without lights were rescued after GPS coordinates from a cellphone led first responders to their location, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said Sunday.
Gibson Chase-Pinkney, 28, of Keene, and Adam Hugh, 24, of Richmond, started on a short hike around 5 p.m. Saturday on a trail they had hiked before, Fish and Game said in a news release.
The pair ended up off the trail as darkness set in and called for help, according to the news release.
A team from the Keene Fire Department used GPS coordinates from the call to locate the hikers just below the summit of West Hill around 10:30 p.m., the news release said. The hikers were taken out of the woods on off-road vehicles around 11:30 p.m. and refused medical attention, Fish and Game said.
Swanzey police and fire and Winchester firefighters also responded to the search.
