LEBANON — Police say a local man’s body was recovered Tuesday morning from the Mascoma River.
The identity of the man is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin, Lebanon Police Chief Richard Mello said in a statement.
The exact cause of death has yet to be determined as the deceased is scheduled for an autopsy Wednesday to be performed by the New Hampshire Chief Medical Examiner’s office.
Police were first alerted about 9 a.m. Tuesday by someone reporting what appeared to be a dead body in the river near 7 Foundry St., according to Mello.
Police and Lebanon firefighters got to the area and soon spotted the man’s body, which took firefighters until about 11 a.m. to successfully retrieve, Mello said.
Detectives were able to identify the man, but at this time Mello would only confirm the deceased was a Lebanon resident.
