NASHUA — A man died Sunday morning after jumping from a bridge into the Nashua River, authorities said.

Nashua police and fire responded to a call around 8:25 a.m. about a person who was in the river after jumping from the Main Street Bridge.

Two police officers entered the river and were able to pull the man to shore, but efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Deputy Chief Glen MacDonald of the Nashua Fire Department said.

The two officers who jumped in the frigid water were taken to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center as a precaution and were treated and released, police said.

No other details were immediately available. Police asked anybody with information about the man or the incident to call (603) 589-1665.
